Meet The Designers

Originally from rural Herefordshire in England, Andrew is a graduate from the DCCoI Ceramics Skills & Design Course in Thomastown Co Kilkenny who creates functional pots and clay musical instruments at his Dublin studio. Andrew’s teapots, boxes and musical instruments are inspired by the soft, eroded forms and the subtle colour palette of the Irish west coast shoreline. Complimentary slips, glazes and smoke firing with seaweed and other organic materials give a variety of tones and textures.

Bridget is a graduate of DCCoI Ceramic Skills & Design Course in Co. Kilkenny Inspired by trees, in particular their colours and textures, Bridget makes functional porcelain tableware and sculptural stoneware vessels. Each piece is decorated with printing and splashing techniques, using a range of blue and green slips to create unique surface qualities, both visual and tactile.

A contemporary wheel-based ceramic artist from Northern Ireland, Claire is a graduate of DCCoI Ceramic Skills & Design Course in Co. Kilkenny, and specialises in porcelain tableware. Inspired by Middle Eastern, Korean and Minoan Ceramics, Claire creates thrown and coiled large scale vessels from a variety of clays and decorates the surfaces simply to allow each piece to have a presence of its own. She hopes the energy she puts into the making of her large-scale moon jars is conveyed in their strong presence, full-bodied forms and richly glazed surfaces.

Marta, a graduate of DCCoI Ceramic Skills & Design Course in Co. Kilkenny, creates fine functional porcelain ware and large one off bowls. Surface decoration is an important element of her work. Sensitively decorated with blues and turquoises she uses her pieces as a canvas for expressing her ideas. Inspiration comes from nature and landscape, especially, skies, river and water. Her “Dotty Blue” range is inspired by Braille language and comes from playful experimentation with the slip decoration process.
