KILKENNY Meet the Designer

Meet the Designer at Kilkenny Dublin

The Kilkenny Shop will hold its first ever Meet The Designer event at its Nassau Street store in Dublin this Autumn/Winter.

Customers will have the opportunity to meet in person the designers who create Ireland’s most stunning ranges of handmade jewellery.

Marketing Manager for the Kilkenny Group, Gregory O’Gorman explains: “The objective of the Meet the Designer event is for our customers to learn and understand about the skills and intricacies required to produce each individual piece and to appreciate the enormous difference between an Irish handmade necklace, for example and a necklace mass produced by a machine in a factory.”

The event is being kicked off with Geraldine Murphy of Saba Jewellery who will be in the Kilkenny Shop from October 13th-19th

Saba Jewellery specialises in the design of handmade jewellery made from silver, gold and unusual semi-precious gemstones. Geraldine’s designs include the quirky washing line necklace with matching irons earrings. Her inspiration comes mainly from her love of animals, with cats catching goldfish, monkeys peeping out of cleavage and crabs running up the beach featuring in her designs.

From October 20th-26th, 2008, jewellery designer Garrett Mallon will be meeting customers in the Nassau Street store and showcasing his work.

Garrett trained and worked in London and Dublin for 15 years, and now works from his studio at the foot of the Cooley mountains in Omeath, County Louth. Using silver, gold, precious and semi precious stones, his collections are inspired by his surroundings. He moulds and shapes the metal, contrasting textures to reflect 'nature's forms' and uses

gemstones with rich and vibrant colours.

Dublin born jewellery designer Maureen Lynch has earned her reputation over the last decade for producing jewellery that carries the distinctive hallmark of her talent for timeless design. Her pieces are modern classics.

Maureen will be taking part in the Meet the Designer event at Kilkenny between October 27th-November 2nd, 2008. Throughout her collections, Maureen marries elegant simplicity with high quality. Her pieces take their cue from the body itself.

"Like a clothes designer, I always bear in mind the contours of the body when designing, so that the wearer feels comfortable and at ease in the finished product. I want the wearer to enjoy wearing the jewellery, as I enjoyed making it,” Maureen explains.

The Meet the Designer event will continue instore at the Kilkenny Shop on Nassau Street throughout November.
